How to Get to Muri Beachcomber

Are you wondering how to get to Muri Beachcomber hotel in Muri Beach? For us it was very easy. After arriving to the airport in Avarua (which I wrote a little bit about here), there was a shuttle waiting for us at the airport to take us to the Muri Beachcomber.

Private Shuttle Bus

As soon as we had walked past the customs at the airport, there were people at the airport door asking us where we were going and helping us find the right shuttle bus.

We got flower leis around our necks before entering the shuttle and then we waited maybe 30 minutes for the rest of the passengers. They told us that the long wait was not normal. All of us in the shuttle bus were going to the same hotel. The bus fit about 10 passengers.

It was nice talking to the people in the shuttle because most of them had already stayed at the Muri Beachcomber before. One couple from England had been there 8 times and this time were staying for 6 weeks! That’s a good sign. They all love it there. This made me feel good about my choice for a place to stay.

The shuttle ride was about 30 minutes. The shuttle driver had the room keys for us with him, so we didn’t even need to check in at the front desk. Also, it was super early in the morning and the front desk staff probably wasn’t working that early. But in either case, we were able to go directly to our room.

When I booked on Expedia, the airport shuttle was included in the room price. I loved that it was included because it made me feel like I somehow got something for free. Even though I am sure the room price was adjusted to include that.

Local Bus Option

Later on I stayed at a different hotel in Rarotonga, and the cost for their airport shuttle was so high, that we decided to take the local bus instead. The bus charges you a couple of dollars extra for each piece luggage, but it was very reasonable.

You can take the bus from the main road in front of the airport. The bus goes both ways, once per hour. There aren’t really any marked bus stops, but the bus usually stops anywhere safe if you wave at it.
